  1. 1741-1820. English writer and publicizer of
  2. the new farm practices associated with the
  3. agricultural revolution. When the Board of
  4. Agriculture was established 1792, Young was
  5. appointed secretary, and was the guiding
  6. force behind the production of a
  7. county-by-county survey of British
  8. agriculture. His early works, such as
  9. Farmer's Tour through the East of England and
  10. A Six Months' Tour through the North of
  11. England, contained extensive comment and
  12. observations gathered during the course of a
  13. series of journeys around the country. In
  14. 1771 he published the Farmers' Calendar, and
  15. in 1784 began the Annals of Agriculture,
  16. which ran for 45 volumes, and contained
  17. contributions from many eminent farmers of
  18. the day.
